Over the holidays ...

Congratulations

We have just concluded our "Les Animaux de compagnie" unit.  The students had a great time learning about the different animals.  We learned many new words and songs.  They even learned how to write very simple sentences using some of their new vocabulary.  Thursday and Friday we will be watching a French movie in class so that they can get used to hearing the French language.  There is no better way to learn pronunciation and intonation than to be completely immersed in the language they are learning.  Great job! You should all be proud!

Making Sentences

Today the grade 4 students attempted to make very short and simple sentences in class.  It was great to see them using the words they learnt throughout the unit!  You should be very proud of your child.  Please encourage your child to make simple sentences at home as well.  Also, remember to visit the LINK section of this website.  I try to add new links often.  They are a great way for them to practise what they learn in class on a daily basis.

Etude des mots!

Hi Everyone,
Starting today, all the French core students will be starting a Word Study (Etude des Mots!).  Every Monday they will receive a list of words to study over the week.  They are to study their meaning, spelling and how to use them in daily interactions.  Some weeks they will even be asked to write short sentences or complete other fun word activities with the words of the week.  They are to bring back their Word Study notebooks to school on Friday and hand them in. 
Lets have fun learning our new words! 

Oral Responses

Hi everyone! The students have been learning a lot in class and have been engaging in dialogues revolving around pets.  This week they are going to be listening to an oral text and answering True and False Comprehension questions.  It's great to see them learning more and more French daily!

Je Me Presente Oral Presentations

Last Friday the students took home their marked and corrected French tests.  They were to practise them and present them Monday and Tuesday.  For the most part they did a fabulous job!  Formidable!  Some of them had their presentation memorized and used gestures. It was fantastic to see! Keep up the great work!

Les Animaux de Compagnie

We have started a new unit the last few days of school. We are learning about Pets (animaux de compagnie).  The students have been introduced to the new vocabulary and have been working on learning to identify various common and not so common household pets.  I have challenged the children to learn the names of the following pets this week:

3. Un Chien - A dog
4. Un Cobaye - A guinea pig
5. Une Gerbille - A Gerbil
6. Une Grenouille - A frog
7. Un Hamster - A Hamster

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.  I want to thank everyone that has been going on the site regularly.  It's wonderful to see such dedication from both the students and parents.  It was great to hear them singing the new song we learnt in school!  This week we are going to be learning how to describe ourselves.  Here is what we have learnt so far:
